FISHERS, IN – On the road again. Just can’t wait to get on the road again. The life I love is makin’ music with my friends, and I can’t wait to get on the road again.
That old Willie Nelson song often rings true for me, especially this time of year. I typically travel quite a bit during the summer months, and this summer is shaping up to be another busy travel time.
Right now, I’m in Fishers, Indiana, to attend the annual Christian Comedy Association retreat. This is always a great time of fellowship, worship and education for those of us who enjoy making people laugh and sharing the message of the gospel through what we do on stage.
Before I got here, I made a couple other stops.
On Saturday night, I and two other guys entertained at a fund-raising event for the Women’s Resource Center of Crawfordsville, Ind. I was asked to use my portion of the time to play some music on my trumpet and do some comedy. The audience was very receptive and complimentary.
Overall, the three of us comedians had a really good time and thought the evening went well.
On Sunday, I traveled to Columbus, Ohio, to visit some family. My aunt Lydia is the last surviving sibling of 12 children who were in my mother’s family. She and my uncle Don were visiting their son and his family, and since I missed her big 90th birthday celebration in April, I decided to surprise her and make the three-hour drive east for an afternoon visit.
Following the CCA retreat here in Indiana, I will head back home. I’m honored to be asked to play the National Anthem at the Mecum Auto Auction in Tulsa on Friday and Saturday.
In a few weeks, my daughter and I have a road trip planned to Phoenix, Arizona. She is looking forward to visiting a friend and her family and I will be visiting some of my friends who live in the area. Hopefully while we are there, we will get to see an Arizona Diamondbacks game. I’ve only seen ballpark from the outside, but I’ve never been to a game there, so this will be a first.
A July trip is currently planned to work as a member of the fan experience surrounding the Major League Baseball All-Star game in Arlington, Texas. That is not definite yet, but it looks like I’ve made it through the first round of applications.
Then in August, I’ll be heading back to the Dominican Republic on another medical mission trip. There, I will once again have the opportunity to play my trumpet and minister in a church.
I will certainly be writing about my experiences, and I hope you will follow along here.
I love traveling, I love making people laugh and I love sharing my music with people everywhere. I also like to go to new places and enjoy new experiences. Hopefully there will be some of that along the way, as well.
On the road again. Goin’ places that I’ve never been. Seeing things that I may never see again, and I can’t wait to get on the road again.
