More than 12 months of lockdowns due to the Chinese coronavirus have taken their toll on Americans, especially school-age children.

A study published by Tulsa Public Schools showed that nearly half of the students in that district are failing in at least one class.  That’s about 14,000 Tulsa students are aren’t making their grades. At least 15% of the students had a failing grade before the pandemic and now that figure is 47%, according to the report.

Even good students are slowing down as A and B grades are down from previous years. The decline is due to the ineffectiveness of online instruction.

It just doesn’t have the impact of teaching the students in person. Any teacher could have told them that without the need for a report.

The report showed that students in the bottom one-fourth of the school population log in only once every four days.

So it turns out that Gov. Kevin Stitt was right in pushing for all Oklahoma schools to return to the classroom. True science shows that the coronarvirus has less of an impact on children than adults. Obviously, certain teachers who fall in the high-risk category shouldn’t be in the classroom due to the risk of contract the virus.

But kids need to be back in school.

Apart from the loss of instruction, students were depraved of graduation ceremonies, proms, sports and other aspects of school life that help round out individuals.

The coronavirus caused a decline in child development that may be very hard to overcome, even with students back in the classroom.
