In game one on Friday, the Oral Roberts baseball team scored six times in the eighth inning to rally and take the series opener 9-5 over Northern Colorado.
Right-hander Easton Teel put together a quality start by going six innings, giving up just three hits, three runs, one walk, and he struck out two batters. The Golden Eagles scored six runs in the eighth inning, including a three-run homer by Cooper Combs.
On Saturday, ORU pitcher Nathan Love led the Golden Eagles to a 6-4 win over UNC. It was a pitcher’s duel, with both starters holding both offenses scoreless after five. Love pitched six innings for the third time this season giving up just two hits, one walk, and struck out two batters. It’s his second shutout outing of the season. Cooper Combs had four RBIs to increase his team-leading total to 28.
In the sixth the ORU bats finally came to life as they scored four times with an RBI single from Keaton Campbell, one of three hits on the day for him, an RBI double from Jack Schark in a two-RBI performance on the day, and a Owen Coil two-run homer to cap it off, his fifth of the season.
ORU dropped game three of the series on Sunday, losing 18-10.
In this offensive battle, not only did these two teams combine for 28 runs, but they also totaled 35 hits in the game.
ORU’s Cooper Combs hit his fifth homer of the year, a two-run shot in the top of the first inning to give the Golden Eagles the early lead.
In the bottom half of the inning, it was all Bears sending 13 to the plate scoring nine runs on nine hits which surpassed their hit total from game two. ORU was forced to go to the bullpen in the first inning.
ORU would get one back in the top of the second as Jack Schark scored on a throwing error to home plate cutting it to a six-run deficit, but Northern Colorado would have a 13-3 lead after just three innings.
ORU cut the Bears lead to four (13-9) in the seventh inning, however, that would be as close as the Golden Eagles would get, as the Bears took back control scoring once in the bottom of the seventh and four times in the bottom of the eighth to win the game.
The Golden Eagles are on the road again this weekend with a three-game series at Omaha beginning Thursday evening.
