Oral Roberts University men’s basketball team defeated North Dakota, 84-72, Saturday afternoon in Grand Forks, North Dakota. It was the 1,000th win in program history, and kept the Golden Eagles undefeated in Summit League play (17-4, 8-0).
For the second-straight game, Max Abmas scored 20-plus points, leading all scorers in this game with 27 points. Four Golden Eagles recorded double-digits and Carlos Jurgens earned his first career double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds.
A back and forth first half saw both teams lead by as much as four in the first 20 minutes of action. After trailing by four, the Golden Eagles went on a 9-2 run over a four-minute span.
UND led 39-37 at halftime. ORU shot 51.6 percent from the field, while UND hit nine three-pointers in the first half.
The ORU defense shut down UND from the three-point line in the second half only allowing the Fighting Hawks to connect twice from beyond the arc. It was 52-52 with 11:38 to play when ORU regained the lead and held onto it for the remainder of the game. The Golden Eagles sparked an 11-2 run to lead by 11 with two minutes to play. Abmas would close out the game with a pair of free-throws as ORU ended with the 84-72 advantage. For the game, ORU shot 54.5 percent from the field.
Issac McBride captured 15 points on the day and Connor Vanover followed with 19.
ORU will be home this Saturday to host Omaha at 7:00 p.m. at the Mabee Center. It will be Hall of Fame night and former basketball star Caleb Greene will be inducted in the ORU Athletics Hall of Fame.
On Monday, Jan. 30, at 7:00 p.m. ORU will host South Dakota at home.
