The Sooners joining the SEC this season were ranked 16th in the AP preseason poll and eighth in the SEC preseason media poll.

This is their third season with Brent Venables as their head coach.  OU has been in the AP preseason Top 25 poll 25 straight years, 66 times over all.  Their overall ranking for the 66 appearances is 6.9, the top average in the nation.

There are nine SEC teams making the Top 25 this year.  No. 1 Georgia, No. 4 Texas,  No. 5 Alabama, No. 6 Ole Miss, No. 11 Missouri, No. 13 LSU, No. 15 Tennessee, No. 16 OU and No. 20 Texas A&M.

The Sooners will play  six of these top 25 SEC teams in the regular season:  Texas, Alabama, Ole Miss, Missouri, LSU and Tennessee.  Of these teams there are only two  home games: Tennessee and Alabama.

The Sooners first game this season will be against Temple at home on Friday, August 30, at 6 p.m.

Oklahoma State is ranked 17th in the preseason AP poll.  This is the fifth time since 2016 that they have been ranked in the Top 25 in the preseason. The Cowboys have been ranked every season since 2008 in the Top 25 AP  at some time during the season.

Four other Big 12 teams were ranked in the Top 25.  Utah was No. 12, Kansas State  No. 18, Arizona No. 21 and Kansas No. 22.  Iowa State, West Virginia and Colorado also received votes in the poll.

The Cowboys will open the season at home with a sold-out crowd against South Dakota State on Saturday, August 31 at 1 p.m.
