After the Big 12 tournament the Sooners were assigned to the Charlottesville, VA regional tournament in postseason play.  Oklahoma played the East Carolina Pirates on Friday June 2nd, and lost 5-14.

The Sooners gave up 10 runs before the sixth inning to the Pirates.  In the top of the sixth inning the Sooners finally got on the scoreboard with 1 run on a RBI single by Easton Carmichael.  The Pirates matched that score in the bottom of the sixth.

In the seventh inning a sacrifice fly by Kendall Pettis and a wild pitch brought 2 more scores for OU.  The Pirates also matched these scores in the bottom of the seventh.

The Pirates also scored in the bottom of the eighth inning to make the score 14-3.  OU rallied in the top of the ninth with two more runs, Dakota Harris and Bryce Madron had the RBIs, but fell short at 14-5.

Braden Carmichael was the losing pitcher for OU, his first of the season.

Next up for the Sooners was Army.  The Sooners won with Braxton Douthit pitching a complete game and the Sooners pounding Army 10-1.

The Sooner bats were hot with four RBIs from Bryce Madron, two each from Kendall Pettis and Easton Carmichael, and one each from anthony Mckenzie and Wallace Clark.

The final game of the season for OU was a rematch against East Carolina with the Sooners losing 5-8, ending with a 32-28 record.

“Losing the last game of the year is always tough because you practice to win the last game of the year,” Skip Johnson said. “We didn’t get our outs on time in the third inning, to maybe give up one run instead of three. In the bottom of the fourth, we had the bases loaded with no outs, and they got out of the jam. Credit to them for doing that, and credit to them for the last two games we played them. They played really well and they’re a good team. They took the momentum and got some big hits in that next inning, and we gave up five.

“I think our club really battled the rest of the time through. They showed a lot of character and what our culture is about. I’m really proud of our team for what we did this year, and how far we’ve gotten with the guys we lost last year. It’s no excuse, it’s just about baseball. We’ll continue to grow the culture to get better every year.”

James Hitt was the losing pitcher for OU (6-2).

There were RBIs by Madron, Harris, Mackenzie and Easton Carmicheal.
