Despite Grant Sherfield’s 3-pointer to force overtime and a last second shot in the extra period, Oklahoma men’s basketball dropped the Red River Showdown to No. 6/5 Texas 85-83 on Saturday afternoon.

Sherfield recorded a team-high 18 points on 7-of-16 shooting. The Fort Worth, Texas product, buried a team-best four 3-pointers and dished out three assists. Milos Uzan scored 15 points and added four assists, two steals and two rebounds.  Joe Bamisile added 13 points on 4-of-5 shooting and Sam Godwin tallied 12 points on 4-of-6 shooting off the bench. Jalen Hill recorded 11 points, six rebounds, four assists and three steals.

The two teams were tied 34-all at halftime, and the game was tied 73-73 at the end of regulation.

Texas raced out to an 84-77 advantage in the extra frame. Oklahoma put together a six-point spurt after a pair of Hill free throws and baskets by Godwin and Uzan, cutting the Texas lead to one. Tyrese Hunter made one of his two free throws after the intentional foul and gave Oklahoma one last attempt. The Sooners final shot caromed off the backboard.

The sooners will play away next week at Iowa State on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. and the Kansasa State at 7 p.m. on Wednesday.
