The No. 12 ranked University of Oklahoma basketball team remained undefeated on Sunday with a 89-67 home victory over Prairie View A&M. The Sooners are now 13-0 and are one of only four teams in Division I that a currently unbeaten. Prairie View dropped to 1-12.
Both teams exchanged baskets for most of the first 10 minutes of the game, stay close in the score, until OU mounted an 11-point lead (30-19) with 9:04 left in the first half.
Oklahoma took a 43-32 lead into halftime.
Prairie View was able to cut the Sooners lead to single digits several times in the second half but could get no closer than eight points.
OU outscored Prairie View 22-9 in the final eight minutes of the game.
Jalon Moore led the Sooners by scoring 16 of his 22 points in the second half, while Jeremiah Fears added 19. Duke Miles was 7 for 7 at the foul line and made a pair of 3-pointers to finish with 17 points.
The Panthers committed several fouls in the game and the Sooners took advantage of the situation by making 32 of 35 free throws. Prairie View was 5 of 7 from the free throw line.
Prairie View’s leading scorers were Tanahj Pettaway with 22 points and Marcel Bryant with 14. The Panthers have played 12 straight road games and have lost all of them. They will play their first home game since opening the season at home on Nov. 4, with a win over College of Biblical Studies.
The Sooners open the new year and SEC play at Alabama on Saturday afternoon. Prairie View hosts Grambling in its SWAC opener Saturday afternoon.
