Oklahoma’s Peyton Graham hit a game-tying two-run homer in the eighth inning as Oklahoma beat Florida 5-4 in Gainesville, Florida, Monday night to win the NCAA Gainesville Regional after a weather delay of more than five-and-a-half hours.

What did Graham do during the record-setting rain delay?

“I took a nap for about an hour and a half,” Graham said.  “And then I watched our guys do some WWE wrestling, so it was pretty entertaining. It just kind of took our mind off of everything and it helped us relax and enjoy the game we play.”

Graham’s line drive homer into the OU bullpen was his 19th of the season and tied the game 3-3. With runners on second and third, Wallace Clark  gave the Sooners the lead with an RBI groundout that scored Tanner Tredaway and Jackson Nichlaus made it 5-3 with an RBI single through the infield.

“It seemed like forever ago we started the game,” said OU coach Skip Johnson. “Trevin [Michael] started the game and was outstanding early. We tried really hard in the game and in the at-bats. I’m just really proud of the kids and how they responded and never gave in. They kept getting after it and getting after it.

“To me the story was Kendall [Pettis] with the big home run. We got some big hits in the game. Peyton [Graham] hit a big home run to tie it. The things we did in the game were really special and JB [Jake Bennett] coming out of the bullpen was really special, he hadn’t done that all year.”

“This was my first year in Power 5 baseball, and it’s been awesome,” said OU pitcher Trevin Michael. “I think this was my longest outing of the year. It’s just so easy to pitch with these guys behind you. With Peyton [Graham] at short, [Tanner] Tredaway in center field, probably the unsung hero of the game.”

Michael pitched six  complete innings, struck out five and allowed one earned run in his longest outing as a Sooner.

Chazz Martinez relieved him after the delay and pitched the seventh inning before turning the game over to Bennett with a lead.

OU (40-21) will next play Virginia Tech (44-12) in the best-of-three Super Regional. The winners of the 16 Super Regionals advance to the College World Series June 17-27 in Omaha, Nebraska.
