If No. 11 Oklahoma beats Baylor and West Virginia, the Sooners will have a spot in the Big 12 Championship and a shot to win an unprecedented sixth league title in a row.
In accordance with Big 12 Conference football game interruption rules, the Oklahoma at West Virginia game scheduled for Nov. 28 was postponed. The game will be rescheduled on Dec. 12. OU will host Baylor at 7 p.m. Saturday on Fox Sports. The Big 12 Championship Game is in Dallas on December 19.
The OU football program temporarily paused organized team activities due to recent positive COVID-19 tests and contact tracing. This is the first postponement for either OU or West Virginia this season.
“I want to wish Oklahoma the best, to get back, to get healthy soon,” said West Virginia coach Neal Brown. “I am disappointed for our players. We had a great week and a half in preparation for the game Saturday night. I know our fans were eagerly awaiting the first night game at Mountaineer Field in two years.
“We are going to celebrate Thanksgiving with our whole team and get back on the practice field Friday in preparation to play Iowa State in Ames on December 5. And we will look forward to hosting Oklahoma on December 12 and finishing our season strong.”
Last week, in the first College Football Playoff rankings, OU was No. 11 – the highest ranking for any Big 12 school.
Oklahoma quarterback Spencer Rattler was named the Davey O’Brien National Quarterback of the Week on November 25 after the Sooners’ 41-13 victory over Oklahoma State on November 21.
Rattler, also the Big 12 Offensive Player and Newcomer of the Week, threw for 301 yards and accounted for all five of Oklahoma’s touchdowns against OSU. He completed 17 of 24 pass attempts (71%) for 301 yards and four TDs while rushing for a nine-yard score in the 28-point victory.
He averaged 17.7 yards per completion and 12.5 yards per pass attempt with a 231.2 passing efficiency rating, his best since the season-opening game and the third-best figure nationally that Saturday (best in the Big 12). He has passed for 300 yards four times and at least 200 yards and two scores in seven games this season.
Among freshman quarterbacks who have played more than three games, he leads the country in passing touchdowns (22), passing offense (289.9 ypg) and total offense (304.3 ypg). Among all players, he ranks sixth in passing TDs, eighth in yards per pass attempt (10.0), ninth in pass efficiency rating (178.2), ninth in yards per completion (14.5), 10th in completion percentage (68.1), 14th in passing offense and 18th in total offense.
OU defensive end Ronnie Perkins was named Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week for his performance against OSU on November 21.
Perkins finished with five tackles, including 3.0 tackles for loss and 2.0 sacks to spearhead Oklahoma’s defensive effort in the win over No. 14 Oklahoma State. The junior’s tackles-for-loss totaled 18 yards and his sacks resulted in a loss of 13 yards. Perkins’ early dominance help set the tone, as the Sooners held the Cowboys to season lows of 246 yards and 3.6 yards per play.
