Proponents of the legalization of recreational marijuana have filed two petitions to try to get a statewide vote to approve unfettered marijuana use by anyone 21 or older.

Part of the action would nullify the current laws controlling the medical use of marijuana.

In 2018, Oklahoma voters approved State Question 788 which they thought would allow for the limited use of marijuana for medical reasons. Instead, the constitutional amendment was written in a way that the state lost most control over marijuana.  Dispensaries popped up on almost every major street corner. Huge marijuana farms – some secretly owned by people in other countries – appeared throughout rural Oklahoma. Unscrupulous doctors wrote prescriptions for patients who really didn’t need to take marijuana.

Essentially, SQ788 legalized recreational marijuana.

Now, those who will make a force on legalized drug trade want all legal restrictions removed with another constitutional amendment. They brazenly say that it’s not a question of if recreational marijuana will be legalized but when.

And they are probably right.

Most politicians won’t publicly oppose full legalization. Others will make statement against it, knowing full well that it will pass after thousands or perhaps millions of dollars will be spent in the liberal media to promote a yes vote. Look for TV reports on the benefits of smoking marijuana.

Some true conservatives will battle against legalization but they are few in number. Historically, Oklahoma pastors and churches would work against such a terrible vote but it looks like that won’t occur this time. Law enforcement and judges will be against this but they face an uphill battle.

Marijuana is not healthy for people. It is a gateway drug to other harmful drugs. Legalization will have a terrible impact on youth.

Don’t sign the petitions and if they make a ballot, vote no. This will make a terrible problem even worse.
