George H.W. Bush, the 41st president of the United States and father of former president George W. Bush, died November 30.
A World War II hero, the senior Bush was president during the collapse of the Soviet Union and the ending of the Cold War in Europe. He was a fighter pilot in World War II. His wife Barbara died in April of 2018. They were married 73 years.
Bush, a Republican, was vice president from 1980 to 1988 under former President Ronald Reagan. Bush was elected president in 1988 but lost his bid for re-election in 1992 to former President Bill Clinton, a Democrat.
“Jeb, Neil, Marvin, Doro, and I are saddened to announce that after 94 remarkable years, our dear Dad has died,” said George W. Bush. “George H.W. Bush was a man of the highest character and the best dad a son or daughter could ask for. The entire Bush family is deeply grateful for 41’s life and love, for the compassion of those who have cared and prayed for Dad, and for the condolences of our friends and fellow citizens.”
