President Donald Trump has chosen Tulsa as the location to restart his “Make America Great Again” campaign rallies which were suspended due to concerns about the coronavirus.

The campaign rally will be at 7 p.m. Saturday at the BOK Center, , in Downtown. That could change because more than one million Americans have requested tickets.  The Civic Center will be used for the overflow crowd. Ticket requests are available at events.donaldjtrump.com and are limited to two per request.

Trump, a Republican, will face former Vice President Joe Biden, the presumptive Democrat nominee, on the November ballot.

Trump originally planned to come on Friday but that changed. Anyone who registered for tickets for June 19 won’t need to re-register.

Vice President Mike Pence will also attend the rally.

“We are excited to welcome the President to Tulsa!” said U.S. Rep. Kevin Hern, R-Tulsa. “Oklahoma has done a tremendous job reopening our economy and returning to normal life, so it’s only fitting that President Trump’s first post-coronavirus rally is right here at home. Tulsans are passionate about the work that President Trump is doing to rebuild our economy and maintain the progress we’ve made over the last three years.”

Trump’s last trip to Oklahoma was for a Tulsa rally in 2016. Both Pence and First Lady Melania Trump have visited Tulsa recently.

“We are honored President Trump accepted our invitation to our great state,” said Gov. Kevin Stitt. “The President is making Oklahoma his first campaign stop since March 2, and his visit here confirms Oklahoma is the national example in responsibly and safely reopening.”

Tulsa’s Juneteenth event, normally held on June 19, was canceled due to the Wuhan coronavirus outbreak. Trump felt his visit would be a distraction and changed the date.

Some protests – local and from outside the state – are expected.
