The June 18 primary election decided candidates for the general elections, elected some of the State Senate and House seats, while four races still require runoff votes.

The primary for U.S. Representative District 1 has decided who will run in the November general election.  For the Republicans, Incumbent Kevin Hern won with 87.04 percent of the vote, while Paul Royse brought in 12.96 percent.  Hern will face Dennis Baker, the winner of the Democrat primary  who won with 59.23 percent of the vote over Evelyn Rogers who brought in 40.77 percent.

The only statewide vote on the ballot was for Corporation Commissioner in the Republican primary with Brian Bingman winning with 53.42 percent.  Justin Hornback garnered 28.66 percent and Russell Ray 17.91 percent of the vote.  Bingman will not face Democrat Harald Spradling  and Libertarian Chad Williams in the November general election.

The June 18 primary election decided the election of three races in which there were no opposing candidates from other parties.

In State Senate District 11 Incumbent Democrat Regina Goodwin handily beat Joe Williams with 83.73 percent of the vote.  With no opponent filing she has won the seat.

Derrick Hildebrant won the election for State House 23 by winning the Republican primary against Connor Whitham.  Hildebrant won 71.93 percent of the vote with Whitham bringing in 28.07 percent.

The State House District 67 has been decided as well with Rob Hall taking 50.68 percent and winning the seat in this four candidate race.  Ryan Myers collected 33 percent of the vote, Kane Smith 11,79 percent and Bowden McElroy with 4.53 percent of the vote.

In the State Senate and House races there will be two runoff elections in the Tulsa County that will be decided on August 27th.

Senate District 33, an open seat left by Nathan Dahm will see a runoff.  Four candidates were running:

  • Christi Gillespie        44.29%
  • Shelley Gwartney     25.00%
  • Bill Bickerstaff           21.98%
  • Tim Brooks                   8.73%

Gillespie and Gwartney will be in the runoff in the August 27 election.  the winner of that election will face Democrat Bob Willis in the November general election.

The other runoff election will be in House District 98 between Dean Davis and Gabe Wooley who each got 42 percent of the vote.  J David Taylor who also ran received 15 percent.   The winner of the August 27 runoff election will face Democrat Cathy Smythe in the November general election.

The other State Senate and House primaries have decided who will face their opposition in November.

State Senate 25 pitted Republican Incumbent Jeff Boatman against Brian Guthrie.  Guthrie won with 57.13 percent of the vote, while Boatman came up with 42.87 percent.

Guthrie will face Democrat Karen Ann Gaddis in November.

State House District 23 saw Republican Aaron Reinhardt upset Incumbent Republican Cody Rogers in a narrow victory with 51.02 percent to 48.98 percent of the vote.  Reinhardt will face Independent Andrew Nutter.

Paul Hassink won the State House 79 Republican primary with 73.76 percent against Jenifer Stevens who garnered 26.24 percent.  Hassink will face Democrat Melissa Provenzano in the November general election.

The County Commissioner District 2 race saw both Democrat and Republican primaries that will require a runoff election.

On the Republican side Lonnie Sims came up with 40 percent and will be in a runoff election with Melissa Meyers who came in with 31 percent of the vote.  Jeannie Cue is out of the race with 28 percent.

Democrats Sarah Elizabeth Gray will face Maria Veliz Barnes in the Democrat primary runoff.   Gray brought in 38 percent, while Barnes had 33 percent.  Jim Rea came in a close third at 29 percent.

The winners of the August 27 runoff election will face each other in the November general election.
