Criminal hackers have targeted Broken Arrow Public Schools with a ransomware attack, according to Dr. Janet Dunlop, superintendent of Broken Arrow Public Schools.

School officials contacted their cyber insurance carrier, the FBI and others to investigate the crime.

Ransomware is a type of malicious software designed to deny access to a computer system or data until a ransom is paid.

“We have no plans to pay the ransom,” Dunlop said.

Dunlop said she is not aware of any unauthorized release of student personal date or financial information.
