Oklahoma redshirt freshman quarterback Spencer Rattler has not been named the starter for the Sooners yet the media voted him as the newcomer of the year in the Big 12 Conference.

OU had six players selected for the All-Big 12 while Oklahoma State had four, including OSU running back Chuba Hubbard, who was voted offensive player of the year.

Defensive lineman Darius Stills was named defensive player of the year in the Big 12.

Other OU selections were wideout Charleston Rambo, offensive linemen Creed Humphrey and Adrian Ealy, placekicker Gabe Brkic and defensive linemen Ronnie Perkins.

The OSU selections were Hubbard, wideout Tylan Wallace, offensive lineman Teven Jenkins and defensive back Kolby Harvell-Peel.

Rattler, rated by some as the top quarterback recruit in the nation in 2018, is locked in a battle with redshirt sophomore Tanner Mordecai. OU coach Lincoln Riley has given no indication as to who will start but the media is projecting Rattler as the replacement for Jalen Hurts, who was drafted by the Philadelphia Eagles.

OU’s leading returning wide receiver, Rambo ranked second on the Sooners in 2019 with 43 receptions, 743 receiving yards and five receiving touchdowns.

The 2019 Big 12 Co-Offensive Lineman of the Year, Humphrey was also a finalist for the Rimington Trophy, a second-team All-American and a first-team All-Big 12 selection last season.

Ealy helped pave the way for an offensive attack that led the Big 12 in yards per game (537.6), yards per pass attempt (11.7), yards per play (nation-high 7.96) and yards per rush (5.95).

A second-team All-Big 12 selection, Brkic was the only placekicker nationally who made all of his field goal and extra point tries in 2019 (69 for 69 combined).

Perkins ranked second on the team with 13.5 tackles for loss, 6.0 sacks (tied for fifth in the Big 12) and six QB hurries. He registered 3.0 sacks and 4.0 TFLs in OU’s win at Baylor, the most sacks in one game by a Sooner since 2015.

Hubbard, the 2019 Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year, is the first Cowboy to be named the conference’s Preseason Offensive Player of the Year since Justin Blackmon in 2011.

In 2019, Hubbard and Harvell-Peel were named to the postseason All-Big 12 first team, while Wallace received second team honors and Jenkins was an honorable mention.
