Conservatives in Norman, Oklahoma, are fed up with their liberal mayor and the progressive city councilors.

The Council and Mayor voted to cut $865,000 from the already tight Norman Police budget.

As a result, concerned citizens have filed a recall petition. Already in July, petitioners have more than 10,000 of the 22,000 signatures required for ouster. The group, Unite Norman, has a few more weeks to get all those signatures.

The petition states that the Mayor and some councilors:

  • Disrespect the police department
  • Discourage job creation, and,
  • Are abusing the public trust.

This recall is a bipartisan effort that wants to return Norman government to common sense. The mayor and councilors (Ward 1, 3, 5 and 7) did not run on platforms that indicated they would withdraw support for the police department.

America is treading on dangerous grounds as progressive Democrats encourage rioting and attack police funding. That’s a prescription for anarchy.

If this anti-police policy were to prevail, it would make it very difficult for Norman to hire police officers in the future.

A successful recall petition would send a message to the entire nation that Oklahomans respect law and order and reject the Democrat Party’s assault on local police.
