Even with post-season play a remote possibility, Oklahoma State’s basketball team has recovered from a mid-season slump.
Jonathan Laurent and Kalib Boone each had 16 points as OSU (13-12, 3-9 in the Big 12) upset then-No. 25 Texas Tech, 73-70, in Stillwater Saturday
.Isaac Likekele contributed 14 points, seven rebounds, six assists and three steals for the Cowboys, who have won three of their last four games. The loss ended a three-game winning streak for the Red Raiders.
OSU overcame an eight-point deficit in the second half for the comeback win.
“It’s all about these kids. Always,” said OSU coach Mike Boynton. “When we get things going, they made the decisions out there and helped each other. We had to refocus in a timeout and guys made the commitment, that hey, were not going to lose this game on the defensive end. We are going to get stops and rebounds , and then they went out there and executed.”
“I’ve got a lot of respect for Coach Mike Boynton,” said Texas Tech coach Chris Beard. “You learn a lot about a guy’s character and toughness when his back against the wall. This is three of the last four games they’ve won; the only loss in that stretch was a one-possession game at Baylor. That’s the mark of a team that has a lot of heart and character.” Oklahoma State played at West Virginia Tuesday and they host in-state rival Oklahoma at 3 p.m. Saturday in the second Bedlam game of the year. OU beat the Cowboys 82-69 in Norman in the first game.
