Some Republicans praised Stitt and said the time is right for Oklahomans to go back to work.
“Oklahomans have done a great job in banding together to flatten the curve of infections and protect their vulnerable neighbors,” said State Rep. Sean Roberts, R-Hominy. “We’ve seen this evidenced in the decrease of the projected number of cases in our state.
“However, it’s time to support our state’s business owners and let Oklahomans return to work. The plan and phases outlined today by Governor Stitt give common sense guidelines for industries to maintain social distancing practices and continue increased sanitation efforts.
“Protecting the health of Oklahomans is vital, and the Governor’s phased plan will balance these health and sanitation guidelines with protecting the health of our state’s economy before any further damage is done.”
State business leaders supported Stitt’s actions.
“Since the beginning of the COVID-19 crisis, OCPA (Oklahoma Council of Public Affairs) has said we must protect Oklahomans from the virus while ensuring that Oklahomans can continue to provide for their families. Governor Stitt’s plan embraces both priorities,” said Jonathan Small, OCPA president.
“As Oklahoma re-opens, it is important to continue safety measures to reduce viral spread. At the same time, the state should continue lifting oppressive regulations to empower Oklahomans while also mitigating risks.
“For tens of thousands of Oklahomans, their lives, health and livelihoods have already been negatively impacted by these shutdowns. By taking this first step to begin reopening Oklahoma, Governor Stitt has helped limit these negative impacts and ensured that Oklahoma has a brighter future.”
