The Oklahoma City Chapter of Freedoms Foundation at Valley Forge honored three local heroes at its annual awards luncheon March 12 at the Gaylord University Center at Oklahoma Christian University, in Edmond.

Freedoms Foundation’s National Award, the George Washington Honor Medal, was presented by National President and CEO David Harmer. Freedoms Foundation is an American educational institution that, with the help of volunteer chapters and partners, provides a range of awards and educational programs to help Americans gain a greater appreciation for the nation’s founding documents and the rights and responsibilities of citizenship. The Oklahoma City Chapter is one of 22 volunteer chapters nationwide.

The George Washington Honor Medal was presented to Ronda Vuillemont-Smith of Broken Arrow for her years as a business and civic leader. She co-founded the Tulsa Area Resale Merchants Association; organized relief to tornado victims; helped maintain national monuments in Washington, D.C., during a government shutdown; and founded the Tulsa 9.12 Project, a grassroots organization that promotes an active and engaged citizenry.

Certificates honoring the good citizenship of Charles “Chuck” Bowman and Evelyn Huett McCoy will be presented by the Oklahoma City Chapter.  Bowman, of Edmond, is being acknowledged for his lifelong dedication to the Oklahoma Fellowship of Christian Athletes. McCoy, of Oklahoma City, is being recognized for a wide range of community service, from years of volunteer efforts for Sunbeam Family Services to her time as president of the Oklahoma City Republican Women’s Club.

“This group of awardees joins an elite host of patriots who have been honored by the Oklahoma City Chapter of Freedoms Foundation over the years,” said Chapter President Don Powers. “A small sample includes Anita Bryant, former state Attorney General Scott Pruitt, Dr. Billye Peterson from UCO in Edmond, County Commissioner Kevin Calvey, Maj. Gen. Rita Aragon, Luther Mayor Jenni White and Pastor Paul Blair.”
