After winning their first two games in the SEC Tournament, Oklahoma’s six-game winning streak came to an end as No. 17 Arkansas eliminated the Sooners from the conference tournament with an 82-79 victory Friday night at Bridgestone Arena, in Nashville.

The Sooners defeated South Carolina, 86-74 in the first round on Wednesday, then OU beat Texas A&M, 83-63, in the second round on Thursday, before losing to Arkansas in the quarterfinals.

“I just want to say to our guys, how they have fought through struggle, is as impressive as any college basketball team fighting through any kind of struggles, they did this year,” OU head coach Porter Moser said after the game. “In the number one conference in the country when we were struggling, they stayed together, they showed unbelievable work ethic, character, belief in each other and pushed through hard and started playing some of the best basketball in the country. In the last month, they’ve played some of the best basketball in the country and it’s a credit to the kind of guys they are; to do what they’ve done and to turn the tide with what they did.”

OU led for more than half the game, but the game came down to the final seconds. The Sooners trailed by two when Arkansas’ Darius Acuff Jr. made one of two free throws with 10 seconds remaining. The 11th-seeded Sooners rebounded the missed free throw and had a chance to tie, but Nijel Pack missed a 3-point attempt that could have tied the game at the buzzer.

Arkansas improved to 24-8 on the year and OU fell to 19-15.

For the Sooners, Pack scored a team-high 19 points but was held to only two three-pointers on five attempts. Derrion Reid and Tae Davis scored 17 apiece. Mohamed Wague registered 13 points and six rebounds, and Xzayvier Brown contributed four points, a team-high seven rebounds and a game-high eight assists.

The Razorbacks’ Acuff Jr., the SEC Player of the Year, was the story of the night. He led all scorers with 37 points on 11-for-21 field goals, 5-for-8 three-pointers and 10-for-12 free throws. The rest of his UA team was a combined 17-for-43 from the field.

The game was tight for most of the first half and featured seven lead changes and four ties. OU led 39-37 at halftime.

The second half remained close for the most part, however, the Razorbacks responded with a 10-2 run for a 54-50 advantage midway through the second half.

The Sooners quickly battled back and built a 61-57 lead on Pack’s second 3-pointer of the game before Arkansas knotted the score with 9:00 to go. The game remained close down the stretch with Arkansas winning in the end.
