Tulsa Community College has taken steps to address a tighter budget as it shifts operations for the 2020-2021 fiscal year.

TCC eliminated 27 full-time positions, primarily non-instructional staff, from the 2020-2021 budget.

“The decision was not made lightly but is necessary to keep TCC lean and flexible as we address the changing needs of the College. Known for making quality education affordable and convenient, TCC’s tuition is approximately one-third that of public universities in the state, which is why TCC is a compelling choice in a staggering economy,” said TCC President & CEO Dr. Leigh Goodson.

The employee reductions, effective July 1, will have minimal impact on the academic experience and will save an estimated $1.5 million dollars. The College will assist the impacted employees with career resources, extended compensation, TCC tuition benefits and employee assistance resources.

This year the College has taken steps to trim expenses including:

  • Imposed spending controls
  • Suspended planned maintenance, except for the new Student Success Centers funded with private, donor-designated dollars
  • Increased online/hybrid enrollment maximums to 30 students
  • Enacted a hiring freeze for 33 vacant positions, including executive positions and support staff, estimated to save the College $1.8 million
  • Furloughed 162 part-time employees beginning May 15 through August 1
  • Closed the Child Development Center on the TCC West Campus

“We acknowledge higher education will look different for the foreseeable future and our commitment to meet the needs of our community with small, high-quality classes remains. We are keeping tuition flat for the 2020-2021 academic year and focusing on support and resources so students will be successful however the courses are delivered,” said Goodson.

Looking to Fall 2020, hundreds of TCC Faculty are taking part in faculty development this summer to redesign courses for online, online live and blended delivery.
