It is encouraging to know of government leadership and officials giving heed to action that brings hope and change because of “help from above” being called upon. People search for hope to give their lives meaning in spite of circumstances, hoping things will get better. They place their hope in relationships, jobs, money, assets of all kinds that the world presumes to offer.
So it is commendable that our governor gives prayer highest priority in his personal life and in his work to which he was elected. He started his term in January with a prayer service as his first act in office. More than 450 musicians and many clergy from various denominations entered into the inaugural day service.
Governor Kevin Stitt wanted to practice what he believed (Matthew 6:33), “Seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness and all these things would be added to you.”
The “all these things” referenced practical, material, necessities for daily living as well as God-given blessings to match needs of the soul and spirit.
Gov. Stitt gave praise to the Lord who had made him successful in this campaign and he wrote in his journal, “The Lord first put it on my heart to run for governor of Oklahoma 3.5 years ago but long before that this was a 6-year-old boy’s dream as well.”
As he reflected on any personal inadequacies he had in taking on such a calling, he humbly pleaded for the Help From Above that is available to any person who calls on God and commits his/her life to God. Gov. Stitt has a plan to launch a 77-county initiative to engage non-profits and faith-based organizations and churches to come together to “heal and solve some of the social issues county by county that the government cannot do, no law can do, more laws cannot do, but only our Heavenly Father can do and will do when “My people, who are called by My name, humble themselves….(2 Chronicles 7:14)”.
May we Oklahomans pray daily for our governor, for his family and administration so wise and Godly decisions are forthcoming for the praise of God and healing of our state.
