This week we look at the good, the bad and the ugly in sports.

The good, is the Tulsa Oilers Indoor Football League team. After defeating the Iowa Barnstormers at home this past Saturday night, 62-57, the Oilers are now on a franchise best three game winning streak, and their record is now 4-2.

The 62 points is the most the team has scored at home, at the BOK Center, in their three seasons in existence.

Tulsa jumped out to a 13-0 lead in the first quarter, but Iowa scored twice to take a 14-13 lead in the second quarter. Later in the quarter, Tulsa’s Taylor Hawkins intercepted a pass and the Oilers scored on the next drive. Tulsa led 33-17 going into halftime.

The Oilers are on the road for the next couple weeks with games at Quad City and Iowa, before returning home to host the Quad City Steamwheelers on May 30 at 7:00 p.m.

The bad is the Colorado Rockies. One year after the Chicago White Sox set the Major League Baseball record for most losses in a season, it looks like the Rockies are on pace to break that record. The White Sox finished the 2024 season with a record of 41 wins and 121 losses. The Rockies are on a pace to lose 130-plus games this season, if things don’t change.

As of Monday, the Rockies record was 7-33, the second-worst 40-game record from the start of the season in MLB history since 1900. On Sunday, it cost Rockies manager Bud Black his job. The nail in the coffin was a 21-0 blowout loss to San Diego on Saturday, although the Rockies did bounce back and beat the Padres, 9-3, on Sunday.

Colorado third base coach Warren Schaeffer was named interim manager, while hitting coach Clint Hurdle will step in as interim bench coach. Bench coach Mike Redmond was also dismissed. “Our fans deserve better,” said owner Dick Monfort in a blunt statement, making clear how the organization feels about the way things are going.

The White Sox aren’t fairing much better this season and have the second worst record in MLB at 12-29.

The ugly, is news of Houston Astros pitcher Lance McCullers Jr. getting death threats directed at his children.

McCullers had a tough outing last Saturday night against the Cincinnati Reds. Sidelined by injuries the past two seasons, he was making just his second start since Game 3 of the 2022 World Series. He allowed seven runs while getting just one out in the first inning of Houston’s 13-9 loss.

“I understand people are very passionate and people love the Astros and love sports, but threatening to find my kids and murder them is a little bit tough to deal with,” McCullers said after the game. “So just as a father I think there have been many, many threats over the years aimed at me mostly, and I think actually one or two people from other issues around baseball actually had to go to jail for things like that. But I think bringing kids into the equation, threatening to find them or next time they see us in public, they’re gonna stab my kids to death, things like that, it’s tough to hear as a dad.”

That’s not only ugly but also sick that people would threaten the life of anyone’s children because their parent performed poorly in a sporting event. Hopefully, these deranged people will be found through their social media accounts and charged with the crime.
