If you want to stop murder in America’s big cities, target the criminals, not law-abiding citizens.

In early September, in a span of about 16 hours, seven people were shot (two died) in different neighborhoods in Baltimore, Maryland.

Baltimore had recorded more than 240 homicides in 2019, according the Baltimore Sun. If that figure reaches 300, it will be the fifth straight year that Baltimore has had more than 300 homicides.

And it’s not just shootings. Violent crime is up in Baltimore, a trend that started in 2015 and has accelerated.

The FBI put Baltimore on its “Crime in the U.S.” list in 2017 after the city recorded 342 homicides – a rate of 56 per 100,000 population.

So, what should be the solution?

U.S. Rep. Elijah Cummings, D-Maryland, wants “stronger” background checks for gun purchases. Right now, a law-abiding citizen goes through an FBI background check to purchase a gun from a dealer with a gun license.

That’s not good enough for the Democrats in Congress. They want an FBI background check on every firearm transaction – including within families – to be passed. But what they really want is confiscation of all the firearms in the nation. They want to disarm America.

These progressives ignore the real problem – unchecked crime in the streets in cities like Baltimore – and instead take steps toward the eventual mandatory registration of guns and their ultimate confiscation. Democrat candidates for president already are pushing for buy back of guns from the American public.

Cummings ignores the real problem and therefore is part of the problem. And people keep getting shot to death in Baltimore.
