When Jesus fed 5,000 people with only five loaves and two fishes, it was a miracle. Something else happened that day. It wasn’t a miracle but it was supernatural. Here is the rest of the story.

The 5,000 were men but if the women and children are included, there was more.

It isn’t likely all of the 5,000 of the men were married but maybe at least 3,000 were married. As for the kids, at least there was one boy and one girl per couple – 5,000 men, 3,000 women, 3,000 boys and 3,000 girls add up to 14,000 people.

The 100 yards and two endzones of a football field will probably hold a thousand people so you would need 14 football fields. Laid end to end, that many football fields would probably cover a mile. The voice of Jesus had to be supernaturally amplified so all could hear.

Because the day was far spent and the walking distance so great, it probably took the Disciples until the wee hours in the morning to feed everybody.

After all were fed, Jesus told the Disciples to go back and gather the leftovers, which filled 12 baskets.

Time and distance weren’t the only speedbumps. There was the noise such a multitude makes. Men talked business, women chatted and the kids played.

After all was said and done, Jesus probably gave the 12 baskets of leftovers to the lad who had supplied the loaves and fishes.

And as the late radio commentator Paul Harvey said, “Now you know the rest of the story.”
