Thanks again to Joe Biden, there is a baby food shortage in America.
This is a serious matter.
This has been going on for a huge part of the Biden Presidency. In early May, the out-of-stock percentage of baby food was 31%. In fact, in April states that included Iowa, South Dakota, North Dakota, Missouri, Texas and Tennessee, had more than half their formula sell out.
Experts say baby formula could be more adversely affected that other products because of supply chain issue, product recalls and record-breaking inflation.
CVS are limiting customers to three toddler and infant formulas in some states. Target limits it to four units for online customer but there are no limits in person purchases. Walmart isn’t talking about imposing limits but it is suspected those might soon be limited to five units per customers.
The FDA shut down a major baby food plant in Sturgis, Michigan. Abbott Nutrition had problems with potential bacterial infections, including Salmonella. The FDA cautioned people not to buy certain batches of Similar, Alifmentum and EleCare to be safe.
Abbott is a main supplier for government baby formula for poor women. They have imported some formula from overseas to make up the shortage. But it is a global shortage.
And guess what? As more and more publicity about the shortage gets out, the more people start panic buying and hoarding. I guess if you are going to panic buy, baby formula would be on the top of the list for most families.
Over the years, baby formulas have been steady market. That means that a major disruption can cause serious problems. The birth rate in the United States is falling and hit a record low in 2020. And the popularity of baby formula has declined as more mother prefer to breastfeed.
We don’t have any babies in our family currently but we have one coming in October to our dauther and son-in-law and twins coming in December to my son and daughter-in-law.
My first inclination when I heard about a shortage is to stock up. When the Chinese coronavirus, we wanted to buy another freezer. Everyone was out and it would take weeks to order one. Thank God we found the last one in town at Home Depot. And new try to keep it stocked. Because it is mostly full, we only have to buy stuff as we use it.
I won’t stock up on baby formula because we don’t need it now and I wouldn’t want it sitting on my pantry shelf while some kids go short.
What is the answer?
The answer is to produce more. We need to fire up the farmers and restock those shelves. We need a big a dose of Yankee ingenuity.
Biden correctly identified the problem – a growing food shortage for America and the rest of the world.
What he didn’t offer was a solution. He doesn’t understand capitalism because he lives by Socialist principals. Biden’s solution is to borrow more money and raise taxes on “rich” people.
If you want to see extreme government control, let Biden and his minions take over the food supply in America. Then he can do for the dinner table was he did for gasoline, the military and the southern border.
If we don’t fix this, it won’t be the babies who are the only ones crying.
