Post-season accolades have been rolling in for the Oral Roberts University baseball squad, who is competing in the College Baseball World Series.

Golden Eagles closer Cade Denton was named the 2023 National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Stopper of the Year and head coach Ryan Folmar was given the Mike Martin National Coach of the Year award, Friday in Omaha.

Denton is the first player in program and Summit League history to earn the Stopper of the Year award, which is given to the top relief pitcher in NCAA Division I Baseball.

Denton and teammate Jonah Cox were named First Team All-Americans by Perfect Game and the American Baseball Coaches Association/Rawlings. The All-America honors mark the fourth of the season for the Golden Eagle duo.

Denton, a junior, was also named NCBWA First Team All-American.   He was also named The Summit League Pitcher of the Year, and became only the fourth player in program history with 20-plus career saves (22).

Cox, who was also named to the NCBWA Second Team, leads the nation in hits with 110. The junior leads ORU with a .420 average. In addition to his impressive hit total, Cox has belted 11 homers, 16 doubles, and eight triples, while compiling 67 RBI. He has stolen 28 bases this season.

In his first season with ORU, right fielder Matt Hogan earned a spot on the NCBWA third team, which marks the first All-America honor of his career. With the selection, Hogan becomes the 47th All-American in program history. The senior leads the team with 18 homers, 70 RBI and 51 walks. The Melville, New York, native also holds a .332/.477/.678 slash line and has also swiped nine bases on the year.

Folmar became the program’s and Summit League’s first NCBWA National Coach of the Year after leading the Golden Eagles to a 52-12 record and their second College World Series appearance. The 52 wins are a program record (DI-era). In his 11th season at the helm of ORU, Folmar, the Summit League Coach of the Year, guided the Golden Eagles to their 30th NCAA Regional appearance and sixth of his tenure.
