Kindergarten students and students in grades 1-3 have returned to in-person classes in Tulsa Public Schools.

Students in grades 4-6 are scheduled to go back to in-person classes on January 4.

That’s also when TPS students in middle and high schools and junior highs will return to class for the spring semester.

Most students have been using “distance learning” at home due the Chinese coronavirus pandemic.

According to the TPS website, all students will eat breakfast in their classrooms and K-6 will eat lunch in the cafeteria. Pre-K students will eat lunch in their classrooms.

Cafeteria use will be spread out through multiple lunch periods so that students can be spaced out. Students will not face one another while they eat.

Student groups will be separated when outdoors so that classes and grades do not mix. Playground equipment will be wiped down with a disinfectant cleaner between student groups.

Adults who do not work in the school will not be allowed to enter. Family members will not be allowed to walk students into our out of the building.

After the Thanksgiving break, Broken Arrow Public Schools has established this schedule.

Pre-kindergarten through 12th grade students will be in classrooms until December 11 and will switch to distance learning at home December 14-18.

The Christmas break will be from December 21 to January 1.

“The ZIP codes within our district are continuing to experience a significant rise in COVID-19 numbers, which means we are seeing an increasing number of students, teachers and staff being impacted by the virus,” Superintendent Dr. Janet Vinson wrote on the district website.

“When we combine these numbers with a shortfall of substitutes, bus drivers and key personnel, we must continue to wisely utilize our resources as we try to mitigate and manage through the spread of the virus.”

Broken Arrow Schools will provide free meals to students ages 1-18 during the work week outside of closed school sites from noon to 1 p.m.

Should students need in-person support while distance learning, they are encouraged to visit their school site/teacher at any time during normal school hours.
