Late last week Tulsa Public Schools released a statement that it was asking its Board to layoff 50 positions from the administrative staff. With fewer students enrolled and budgets to be balanced with the new fiscal year beginning in July, these staff would still have their contracts honored until the end of the fiscal year on June 30th.
The statement released said “We have worked – and continue to work – to trim large contracts, streamline critical functions, and eliminate unfilled or duplicative services. Even with those efforts, we must continue to maximize our cost efficiencies and that will mean a reduction in the number of administrative positions across Tulsa Public Schools.”
“This recommendation to realign non-student-facing roles has not been made lightly, and comes after many months of work centered around maximizing district resources for student-first
needs. While these changes are necessary to ensure the health of our organization, we recognize the significant impact they have on our valued employees and their families.”
As well as honoring the contracts of the laid off staff through the end of June, TPS will provide benefit and career transition assistance.
