The relationship between President Trump and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce is a train wreck.

That was reinforced by an article by Brody Mullins and Alex Leary for the Wall Street Journal.

The chamber is the biggest lobbying group in Washington, D.C., and a big part of the “swamp” that Trump is working to drain.

The chamber represents about 80 percent of the Fortune 100 companies and has spent more than $1.5 billion on lobbying since 1998.

Chamber officials, who pretend to be for free trade, did not want Trump to be elected in 2016 because of his opposition to illegal immigration. Chamber Chief Executive Officer Thomas Donohue, according to the article, said on television that Trump doesn’t understand trade. When Trump was nominated, the chamber warned that his trade policies would cost America millions of jobs. Just the opposite has occurred.

As a result, the chamber is getting the cold shoulder from Trump.

That’s good.

Chambers of commerce used to be devoted to helping their communities (or country) but that has changed. In Tulsa, the emphasis is on feathering the nest of big donors and manipulating local politics. They are very good at it. Trump has it right. Part of draining any swamp is to tackle establishment organizations like the chamber.
