Tulsa had its best shooting performance of the season as the Golden Hurricane defeated Wichita State 84-77 in front of more than 3,400 fans in the Donald W. Reynolds Center on Sunday afternoon.
Tulsa shot 58.8% from the field, including 13 three-pointers, and improved to 9-11 overall, 3-4 in the AAC. The Shockers are now 11-9, 1-6 AAC.
Wichita State shot 49.2 percent and scored seven three-pointers.
The two teams played fairly even in the first half, with the largest lead being six points by WSU. Tulsa led 42-41 at halftime.
The Golden Hurricane opened the second half on a 13-2 run to take a 55-43 advantage. Then with 11:14 left to play in the second half, Tulsa went on a 9-2 run to take a game-high 17-point lead, 71-54.
Tulsa was led by Jared Garcia with 22 points, including five three-pointers, Keaston Willis and Dwon Odom each scored 17 points. Odom led the team with nine rebounds and 10 assists.
Wichita was led by Xavier Bell with 19 points and Justin Hill with 18.
Tulsa will play at Tulane on Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
