After the Big 12 Conference voted to limit football teams to only nine conference games and one home nonconference game, Oklahoma State fans are wondering who that nonconference game will be and when it will be played.

OSU’s season opener was supposed to be in Stillwater against Oregon State. But that was canceled when the Pac-12 Conference voted to play only conference opponents in a 10-game schedule.

That leaves OSU with two nonconference home games on the schedule against Tulsa and Western Illinois. Tulsa is a member of the American Athletic Conference, which has not announced any scheduling changes.  But it would be difficult for OSU to justify canceling TU in favor of Western Illinois, a member of the Missouri Valley Conference. That conference plans on playing a normal 12-game schedule. Five Big 12 schools had nonconference games scheduled against MVC teams and those games could be canceled.

Western Illinois went 1-11 last year, with its only win against South Dakota, 38-34.

Tulsa is an in-state rival with a series history with OSU plus Tulsa is only 70 miles from Stillwater and that would be a plus during a season affected by the coronavirus.

OSU beat Tulsa 40-21 last year in Tulsa. OSU has won seven games in a row in that rivalry.

There are reports that OSU has had conversations with BYU – an independent that has already lost five opponents due to cancelations – but its seems unlikely that OSU would cancel two home games in one season.
