As of Monday, Tulsa (20-9, 12-4 in the AAC) was tied for first place with Houston atop the American Athletic Conference standings after winning five out of the last six conference games.

Tulsa played at Temple Wednesday night and will finish the regular season at 3 p.m. at Wichita on CBSSN.

The Golden Hurricane have a great chance to the top seed in the upcoming American Athletic Tournament. They can do no worse than a No. 3 seed and will avoid a first-round play-in game.

Lawson Korita set a new career scoring mark with 20 points last Saturday as Tulsa topped Central Florida (14-14, 5-11), 65-54 in the Reynolds Center.

Korita hit a blazing 7 of 9 field goals and was 3 of 4 from 3-point range.

Tulsa hit on 43-percent of its field goals, 45-percent from 3-point range and out-rebounded the Knights 30-22. The Hurricane had a 14-0 edge in second-chance points and a 27-12 advantage for points scored off turnovers.

“We have to take care of the ball a lot better, especially on the road, you can’t have too many turnovers,” said UCF coach Johnny Dawkins. “Our guys did a great job of showing fight. We gave up too many second-chance opportunities as well.”

Tulsa finished the home season with a 15-2 record, which is the most home wins since a 16-2 record in the 2009-10 season.

The American Athletic Conference Championship will take place March 12-15, at Dickies Arena in Fort Worth, Texas.
