Tyshawn Archie scored 18 points to lead the University of Tulsa men’s basketball team to a 96-63 victory over Southwestern Christian University, in the Donald W. Reynolds Center on Saturday afternoon.

It was the final nonconference game on the schedule for the Golden Hurricane, and the win improved Tulsa’s record to 6-7. For SCU, the matchup with TU counted as an exhibition game, so the team’s record remains 4-8 and 2-7 in SAC.

Tulsa led from start to finish and scored 90 points or more for the second straight game.

Other players scoring in double-digits for Tulsa were Keaston Willis and Jesaiah McWright, who both hit four 3-pointers in the game, on their way to 14-point totals, while Ian Smikle added 15 points.

Tulsa shot a remarkable 56.1 percent from the field and 53.3 percent from three-point range, for the team’s best shooting performance of the season.

Tulsa’s Braeden Carrington came close to achieving a double-double with 3-of-3 on three-pointers for nine points and 10 rebounds.

SCU shot 40.7 percent from the field and was 11-of-21 (52.4) from 3-point range. Deondre Dunn led the Eagles with 17 points. However, SCU hit 13 fewer shots than the Hurricane (37-24) while   Tulsa knocked down five more 3-pointers.

Tulsa won the battle of the boards, outrebounding SCU 44-22, leading to a 12-0 advantage in second chance points.

SWTulsa is scheduled to play Rice at home on Jan. 1 at 2:00 p.m. and then will play at UAB on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
