The undersigned share with many other healthcare professionals a deep concern about increasing drug and mental health problems in Oklahoma.  We oppose legalizing recreational marijuana.

In our professional experience, and based on the available literature, marijuana has not proven to benefit the body or brain, and proper dosage if any is unknown.  It harms users as well as sometimes harming those around them.  While we support legitimate research into any substance that claims to contribute to health and happiness, such claims about marijuana are not substantiated, and we do not recommend marijuana for our patients.

Cannabis poses particular threats to pregnant women and their babies, to children and teens, and many who are predisposed, genetically or due to drug interactions, to psychological problems which are sometimes permanent.  Recreational use is not a justification to increase the risks of the problems we have seen.
