Car insurance rates are at an all-time high in the United States, but rates are holding steady in the Tulsa metro area, according to The Zebra’s just-released 2019 State of Auto Insurance Report.

That’s good news, even though Tulsa residents still pay 13 percent ($190) more than the national average for car insurance.

Here are some comparison average prices:

Tulsa metro $1,660
Oklahoma City metro $1,685
Kansas City (Missouri) metro $1,452
Springfield (Missouri) metro $1,344
State of Oklahoma $1,559
United States $1,470

Drivers in the following zip codes pay the most for car insurance.

1 74103 Tulsa $1,902
274110 Tulsa $1,888
374115 Tulsa $1,881
474106 Tulsa $1,876
574120 Tulsa $1,830

And drivers here pay the least:

1 74650 Ralston $1,512
2 74045 Maramec $1,516
3 74437 Henryetta $1,525
4 74652 Shidler $1,527
5 74017 Bushyhead $1,531

The Tulsa metro area data includes 87 zip codes and 59 cities.

Why are rates dropping in the Tulsa metro area?

“Oklahoma drivers have seen rates decline more than any other state — 20 percent since 2011,” said The Zebra Director of Market Insights Alyssa Connolly. “For Tulsa-area drivers, the decline has been 23 percent since 2011, and rates are holding steady this year with nearly zero change. This indicates that accidents and loss expenditures have been steady or declining. Oklahoma has substantially reduced the number of uninsured drivers in the state, which has a positive impact on rates for everyone.
