Tulsa’s fast start this is also in jeopardy.
Jeriah Horne led Tulsa with 16 points, but Wichita State went on a late 17-4 run to pull away for a 79-68 victory over the Golden Hurricane on Saturday in Wichita.
The Golden Hurricane has lost four out of the last five games.
Horne went 6-of-10 from the field and had a team-high six rebounds for Tulsa (13-10, 3-7), while Curran Scott added 11 points. Darien Jackson and DaQuan Jeffries each contributed 10 points and Tulsa shot 53.2-percent, but turned it over 18 times.
Tulsa did defeat Memphis 95-79 January 30 in Tulsa.
DaQuan Jeffries scored a career-high 25 points to go along with eight rebounds, while Curran Scott added a season-high 20 points.
“I thought we played really well from start to finish,” head coach Frank Haith said. “We knew they (Memphis) would ramp it up and be aggressive so we had some turnovers during a stretch, but I’m proud of how we stood our ground and made the plays we needed to make to finish the game.”
