TULSA, Okla. –– The Tulsa football schedule in 2024 features familiar teams and some that the Golden Hurricane hasn’t played in a few years. The slate features a non-conference home game against Oklahoma State in the Gateway Turnpike Classic as well as home games against America Athletic Conference newcomer Army and one of the top AAC teams from a year ago, the UTSA Roadrunners.
Four 2023 bowl teams dot the Hurricane schedule including Arkansas State, OSU, UTSA and Florida Atlantic.
Tulsa kicks off the season on Labor Weekend with a Thursday night home game against Northwestern State (Aug. 29). The Demons played only six games in 2023 and last played on Oct. 19, as the season was cut short following the death of player Ronnie Caldwell.
A week later, Tulsa travels to Arkansas State (Sept. 7) for a return game from ASU’s visit to Chapman Stadium four years ago. The series is tied at three games apiece following Tulsa’s 41-34 win in the 2021 campaign.
Tulsa returns to H.A. Chapman Stadium for the Gateway Turnpike Classic against the Oklahoma State Cowboys on Sept. 14. The teams last met in 2021 as OSU claimed a 28-23 win in Stillwater. The Cowboys, who finished the 2023 season ranked 16th nationally, last visited Chapman Stadium in the 2019 campaign.
The non-conference schedule concludes with a road contest at Louisiana Tech on Sept. 21. The teams last played in Ruston during the 2013 season as members of Conference USA. LA Tech has a 7-3 series advantage.
Tulsa kicks off American Athletic Conference play on Sept. 28, in Denton, Texas, against the North Texas Mean Green. UNT captured a seven-point victory a year ago, but Tulsa still holds an 18-8 lead in the series.
The 2024 season is The American’s second with 14 football-playing schools. The top two teams in the final single-division regular season standings will meet Friday, Dec. 6 in the 10th American Athletic Conference Football Championship.
The month of October begins as first-year AAC member Army will make its first-ever appearance at Chapman Stadium on Oct. 5. Tulsa won the only meeting between the two schools with a 49-29 victory at West Point in the 2007 season.
The Cadets posted a 6-6 record in 2023 and finished the season on a 4-game winning streak.
After an open date (Oct. 12), the Hurricane travels to Philadelphia for a matchup against the Temple Owls. Tulsa won last year’s contest 48-26 at home to take a 5-3 edge in the series.
Tulsa returns home a week later for Homecoming on Oct. 26, in only the second-ever meeting against UTSA. The Roadrunners posted an overall 9-4 record and 7-1 league mark in its first year as an American Athletic Conference member a year ago. UTSA ended the season with a 35-17 win over Marshall in the Scooter’s Coffee Frisco Bowl.
A road trip to Birmingham, Ala., kicks off the month of November as Tulsa and UAB square off on Nov. 2. Tulsa holds a 4-0 series lead against the Blazers, all during the two school’s membership in Conference USA. The last meeting came in the 2012 season as Tulsa posted a 49-42 road win.
East Carolina comes to Tulsa for a Thursday night game on Nov. 14, following Tulsa’s second open date a week earlier. The Hurricane holds a 9-8 series advantage over ECU after capturing a 29-27 victory in last year’s season finale.
Two South Florida teams close out Tulsa’s regular season schedule as Tulsa travels to Tampa to face the South Florida Bulls on Nov. 23 and closes out the campaign back in Tulsa on Nov. 30 against Florida Atlantic. USF finished the season with an overall 7-6 record after posting a 45-0 win over Syracuse in the RoofClaim Boca Raton Bowl, while FAU completed the season 4-8.
Tulsa and USF last played in 2022 with Tulsa claiming a 48-42 win in its home finale that season, while FAU claimed a 20-17 win a year ago amidst a second-half Florida rainstorm last October.
