Two Tulsa police officers, Craig Johnson and Aurash Zarkeshan, were shot early Monday morning near 21st Street and Mingo Road and they are in critical condition.

Johnson joined the Tulsa Police Department in 2005 and was promoted to the rank of Sergeant in 2015, he is assigned to the Mingo Valley Division as a graveyard shift supervisor.

Zarkeshan started the Tulsa Police Academy in 2019 and completed his training May of this year and was only out on patrol for 6 weeks. Both were shot in the head and body with critical injuries. They underwent surgery Monday.

Police arrested David Ware who is charged with two counts of shooting with intent to kill and one gun charge. A second man, Matthew Hall, was arrested as a suspected accomplice.

The shootings occurred during a traffic stop after Zarkeshan noticed a car had an expired paper tag. Police said Ware was told to get out of the car so it could be towed and he refused. Johnson tried to use his taser but Ware grabbed it and Johnson used pepper spray. Police said Ware then reached under his seat for a gun and fired multiple times at the officers.
