Sand Springs – Tyson Foods donated 39,000 pounds of protein, equivalent to 156,000 meals, to Church that Matters, a non-profit dedicated to feeding the people of Oklahoma. The donation marks a total of more than 236,000 meals donated this year to the non-profit.

Tyson Foods provided 1,200 cases of leg quarters that were distributed to nearly 2,000 families in the communities of Sand Springs, North Tulsa, West Tulsa and Mannford during a two-day drive through food distribution. These residents are among the more than 41 million Americans who live in food-insecure households, according to Feeding America.

“We are deeply committed to relieving hunger in the U.S. and lending a helping hand to communities affected by food insecurity,” said Jordan Gershon, Employee Engagement Coordinator. “Tyson is proud to support the work of Church that Matters through its contributions of protein products that provide nutritious, quality food to the local community.”

“The partnership with Tyson means that people in our community get valuable nutrition in a time when that cannot be taken for granted. Every week we hear stories of families who have empty refrigerators and cabinets. The protein Tyson has provided helps sustain our community physically and also provides them with hope to carry on,” Rusty Gunn, Lead Pastor of Church that Matters, said. “We cannot say thank you enough to Tyson for their continued generosity and their commitment to address food insecurity.”

Tyson Foods has donated more food over the past 12 months than ever in its 85-year history. The company donated a record 30 million pounds of protein, equivalent to 120 million meals, this year to fight hunger. The donations were part of nearly $75 million invested to support its team members and critical needs in local communities where the company operates in response to the pandemic.
