The Tulsa Public School Board has been looking for qualified replacements for Cindy Decker’s District 5 seat.
Decker, who has been a member of the board since 2015, announced her decision to resign late last year after a job as executive director of Educare. She vacated her seat around January 7.
Whoever is appointed will serve the remainder of Decker’s term, which expires in February 2020.
If they do not fill the vacancy within 60 days of declaring the seat vacant, they must call a special election for the remainder of the unexpired term.
The application period for the District 5 seat closes at 4:30 p.m. January 11.
Qualified applicants must:
- Must hold a minimum of a high school diploma or certificate of high school equivalency
- Cannot be employed by Tulsa Public Schools or be related within the second degree to any district employee or member of the board
- Must be a registered voter with the Tulsa County Election Board residing within the geographical boundaries of District 5 for at least six months prior to the date of their application for appointment District Five is bounded by the Arkansas River to the west and extends as far east as Yale Avenue. The northern boundary is East 11th Street and the southern boundary lies just south of Interstate 44. The district includes the following schools: Eliot, Lanier, Mayo and Wright elementary schools, and Edison Preparatory School.
