Twins N Needles will host the “Vintage Sewing Adventure” from April 6-7 at the Terrace Room of the Mayo Hotel, 115 W. 5th.
This is the first event for Lara Neel and Lisa Neel, who started their company, Twins N Needles, to offer craft educational events. The weekend will offer more than 40 hours of presentations and hands-on workshops from experts covering the sewing innovations that began with the invention of the home sewing machine in the 1800s and accelerated right into the late 1900s.
Speakers include a professional corsetiere, the author of Sew…the Garment-Making Book of Knowledge, a nationally recognized machine quilting and Featherweight maintenance instructor, the education director at the Cherokee Heritage Center, a vintage sewing pattern teacher and more.
Of special interest to anyone who may be interested in sewing but have no previous experience is the class titled “Help, I Inherited a Sewing Machine.” The Vintage Sewing Center & Museum, Inc. will also offer tours of their collection to those participating in the weekend.
On April 6, the public is invited to an event from 7-9:30 p.m. at the Terrace Room of the Mayo Hotel with book signings and light refreshments.
