On March 3, Tulsa County citizens will vote on whether or not to let liquor stores open on Sundays.
The Tulsa County Commission unanimously approved a ballot question to be on the March 3 ballot, which is the date of the presidential primary.
Liquor store owners complained that the latest wave of liberalization of the state liquor laws allowed grocery stores, convenience stores, drug stores and other retailers to sell strong beer and wine on Sundays.
One of those liberalized liquor laws allows counties to call for a vote on letting liquor stores open on Sundays. Tulsa County is the first county to call for a vote. If it passes, liquor stores could be open as early as Sunday, March 8.
Liquor store owners say beer sales are steady but wine sales have plummeted. Some owners say they will not open on Sunday even if the law passes because it won’t increase their overall business.
