On August 15, the liberal Tulsa World published an editorial insisting that the NCAA cancel all college football games this fall.
According to the editorial, “The COVID-19 pandemic makes college football too risky…
“Cancel the 2020 college football season, or at least postpone it to spring if it can be done safely then.”
This attitude is not surprising. It is surprising that the progressive newspaper is so honest about its disdain for college football and so enamored with telling other people what to do.
The liberal media wants to halt college and pro sports due to the Chinese coronarvirus.
The liberal presidents of the colleges in the Pac-12 and Big Ten conference gleefully canceled fall football (and other sports) because of the “danger” of the virus.
Guess what? That attitude will shift 180 degrees after the November 3 presidential election. Those school administrators are already re-evaluating.
In liberal newsrooms all over the nation, every assignment, every “news” story and every editorial has one purpose – make Americans mad so they will not re-elect President Donald Trump.
They hate Trump because he is trying to make America great again. To liberal journalists, America has never been great. To them, America is a racist country that steals riches from other nations and uses its military to destroy lives.
So their logic is that college football makes people feel good and it unites people. It is very encouraging to go to an Oklahoma game and cheer with 85,000 other fans to victory. And after the game, you can tell the fans from the other team that is was a good game and good luck the rest of the season.
College football is a life lesson about hard work and achievement.
Is college football dangerous?
You bet it is. Every year, players die. They blow out their knees. They wreck their shoulders and hurt their backs. They have concussions and they break bones. Canceling the season would end all that suffering. But that’s just like the speed limit. It’s dangerous to drive 85 mph. People are killed in high-speed accidents routinely. Scientific studies show that if the universal speed limit was 50 mph or even 25 mph, a lot less people would die on our highways and streets.
Life has its risks.
The liberals who call themselves “journalists” claim they have exclusive access to science yet they are pushing misinformation daily. Everybody doesn’t need to wear a mask to stop the coronavirus.
We don’t need to lock down the country again because some states have a spike in reported cases. True science shows that being outside is much healthier than being cooped up in your home.
Most college football teams are taking extraordinary steps to protect their staff and players. Some players and coaches have said that they believe their players are safer on campus because of these medical precautions than they would be at home. TCU and SMU just rescheduled a game.
Teams test the players regularly. If someone has a positive test, they are quarantined until they are no longer infectious.
And here’s a dirty little secret the media skips over. The vast majority of college age people who get the coronavirus will recover completely. There is concern that some could develop a heart condition in the future but the chance of that is very low.
And the progressive news media would love to see big-time college football go broke. OU this fall will have five home games and five away games instead of 12 regular season games this season. And the plan is for 75% of their normal sell-out crowd to be denied admission. OSU will only let in 25% of its fans. That means a huge financial loss for OU, OSU and even TU. TV money won’t cover all those losses.
Some smaller colleges will drop football altogether. Their players will lose their scholarships and there won’t be any room at other schools for them to get their college paid for.
This will have a domino effect.
And to those who want to move the fall football season to the spring, that just won’t work. First, weather is a problem. The Big Ten schools will have to schedule domed stadiums because of winter weather. Will Wisconsin fans sit through zero-degree weather like Green Bay Packer fans? I don’t think so.
And if the Pac-12 and Big Ten play in the spring, will they come back in the fall?
Two seasons in one calendar year is too much to ask of college athletes.
Count on spring football being canceled, too.
If some teams play in the fall and some play in the spring, who is eligible for the College Football Playoff? If the fall teams play for the title, will the champion be tainted? Will there will a fall national champion and a spring national champion?
The fall cancelation has already hurt some Pac-12 and Big Ten teams in their recruiting. High school stars may not want to go to a team that cancels its season. This has spawned transfers and players deciding not to play. Look for some stars to forego their senior year to enter the NFL Draft.
Football will never be completely safe. Most sports are not. Colleges should be able to decide whether they want to field a team or not.
That decision should not be affected by the liberal news media who are trying to get rid of a president.
