Oklahoma and Oklahoma State are headed to the NCAA Women’s Basketball Tournament.
The Sooners, a No. 3 seed, will host the first two rounds and will face No. 14 Florida Gulf Coast (FGCU) in the first round, on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. CDT. No. 6-seeded Iowa and No. 11-seeded Murray State will also play in Norman at 11:00 a.m. The winners of these two games will play each other.
OU comes into the tournament with 25-7 overall record, 11-5 in the SEC. FGCU is 30-3 and went undefeated, 18-0, in Atlantic Sun Conference play. The Eagles won the ASun regular season and conference tournament titles.
FGCU has won their opening-round matchup two of the past three years, all as a No. 12 seed. The Eagles beat Virginia Tech 84-81 in 2022 and topped Washington State 74-63 in 2023. Last season, FGCU lost to Oklahoma in the first round, 73-70.
The No. 7 Cowgirls are slated to play No. 10 seed South Dakota State, in Storrs, Connecticut, hosted by UConn. The game will tip-off on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. EDT/2:30 p.m. CDT. The winner will advance to take on the winner of second-seeded UConn and Arkansas State.
OSU is 25-6 overall, 14-4 in the SEC. OSU finished in third place in the Big 12.
SDSU has a record of 29-3 and was undefeated in the Summit League, 16-0. The Jackrabbits won the Summit League regular season and the conference tournament.
This is the second time in three years that OSU has made the tournament. They last competed in the tournament two years ago when the Cowgirls faced Miami (Fla.) in Bloomington, Ind.
The Cowgirls are 12-17 all time in NCAA action, including three Sweet 16 appearances with the most recent coming in 2014.
TULSA HEADED TO WNIT
The Tulsa women’s basketball team has earned an at-large bid to the 2025 Women’s National Invitation Tournament (WNIT). They will play Lindenwood on Thursday at 7:00 p.m. CDT in St. Charles, Mo. Follow @JeffBSports on X for updates.
Tulsa is one of 37 at-large teams in the tournament field and is joined by fellow American Athletic Conference members North Texas and UAB. The Hurricane enters postseason action with a 17-14 record and finished 11-7 for fifth in The American.
This is the Golden Hurricane’s eighth postseason appearance in program history and third under fourth-year Head Coach Angie Nelp. Tulsa reached the second round in the 2022 WNIT and advanced to the quarterfinals of the WBIT last year.
Tulsa is led by three players averaging double-digit scoring, including unanimous first team all-conference honoree Delanie Crawford (16.9 ppg), sophomore Elise Hill (10.9 ppg) and sophomore Mady Cartwright (10.5 ppg).
ORU IN THE WBIT
Missouri State will host the ORU Golden Eagles in the Women’s Basketball Invitation Tournament (WBIT) on Thursday, at Great Southern Bank Arena in Springfield, Mo. Game at 6:30 p.m. Follow @JeffBSports on X for updates.
Missouri State is 25-8 overall, 16-4 MVC. ORU is 24-8 overall and finished 12-4 in the Summit League.
ORU is making its first appearance in the WBIT. The Golden Eagles hosted a first-round game in the WNIT last year, and lost to Grambling State, 93-91.
The Lady Bears’ WBIT appearance will be their second in a row. The inaugural year of the WBIT was a season ago, when the Lady Bears fell in the first round to eventual tournament champion Illinois.
ORU has averaged 83.2 points per game this season, eighth highest in NCAA Division I. The Golden Eagles are led by five players in double digits: Taleyah Jones (18.3), Jalei Oglesby (17.3), Ruthie Udoumoh (12.2), Makyra Tramble (10.5), and Emily Robinson (10.0).
Missouri State is led by Lacy Stokes who averages 14.3 points per game, and Kyra Daniels with 11.9 ppg. As a team, the Bears average 72.9 points per game.
