Sears has filed for bankruptcy and the last Sears store in Tulsa (in Woodland Hills Mall) will be closed. Sears Holdings Corporation announced on that it is filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy.

The Sears in Woodland Hills Mall and a store in Norman are among 142 Sears and Kmart stores scheduled to be closed. In 2018, Sears closed its store at 21st Street and Yale Avenue the final K-Mart store in Tulsa. The stores will be closed by the end of 2018 and liquidation sales will begin soon. It is uncertain how many jobs this will cost in Tulsa and Oklahoma City.

Sears officials hope they can survive as a company through this action. The growth of competitors including Wal-Mart, Target, Costco, Amazon and others contributed to Sears’ downfall.
